Holobob becomes usable shortly after the game’s first mission introduces players to the leading invader, Crypto. This skill, taken directly from the original Destroy All Humans!, essentially allows players to go undetected by disguising them as a human NPC. To activate the ability, players should simply target an enemy and hit Up on the d-pad. This will begin to create a holographic disguise of the targeted human for Crypto, rendering the player effectively invisible to enemies.

The target a player copies with Holobob will remain frozen and invisible until the ability expires, but players can continue to extend the duration of Holobob by scanning other humans with the Cortex Scan ability (Y/Triangle button). Players should also note that using some of the more powerful abilities, like Psychokinesis, risk disrupting the Holobob illusion -  if disrupted, Crypto will be briefly revealed and the Holobob gauge will deplete faster.

Holobob will be entirely compromised if a human witnesses to its activation, or its disruption. If a player is spotted putting on, or taking off, their Holobob disguise, they should hastily destroy the target, use Forget on them (Down on the d-pad), or simply escape and hide. Any of the aforementioned actions will enable Holobob again, and allow invaders to proceed unharmed. Players should also note that they will need to shed Holobob (press Up on the d-pad) before boarding the laser-equipped flying saucer.

While the Holobob ability seems rather straightforward at first, players will quickly begin to find its nuances - after all, Destroy All Humans! promises around 15 hours of gameplay, for those that take on the side missions. Sure, Holobob makes for an efficient escape, but it also forces players to reconsider using their destructive abilities. Some optional missions will also challenge the player to use Holobob in particular/restricted ways, for example.  Not to mention that a player needs to be conscious of who they affect with Holobob since it will leave them frozen in place and out of sight.

Now that Destroy All Humans! is back and looking better than ever, players can finally begin to unpack all the updates tucked away in this remaster. Graphics aside, the game promises players exciting new additions like Area 42, “the lost level”, so Furon invaders should have plenty of new content to uncover throughout this dazzling, campy, revamp.

Destroy All Humans! Renake is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
