Sparrow Racing League is a three-week, limited event that will begin December 8 and run through December 29. Besides bragging rights, rewards include new gear and sparrows that can only be earned from competing in this special event. It appears that Tess Everis, the microtransaction vendor in the Tower, will be offering up items that coincide with the event, which are likely shaders and emotes.
The new mode will also bring more maps on Destiny’s Mars and Venus locations, specifically designed for racing Sparrows. Anyone who owns The Taken King expansion will be able to play the Sparrow Racing League for free.
Bungie will release a new ViDoc later today, but here are all the details from the developer:
This new game mode will no doubt get many excited, as it has been a requested game mode in the Destiny community for so long. But on the other side, there are definitely some disappointed that Bungie did not announce a new Destiny expansion today at PSX, which many fans had been hoping for. Many are feeling like Destiny’s content is running dry, and this new mode may not be enough to pull all those players back.
Also at the keynote, it was announced that Destiny players on PlayStation will receive exclusive rewards the next time Iron Banner comes around.
