Namely, the old Year 1 shaders have been a point of contention in Destiny 2, specifically because many players may not have known that they could buy them for Glimmer, rather than spending the comparatively extremely limited Bright Dust currency on them. This was an issue because Glimmer can easily be farmed at any point, while Bright Dust is significantly more difficult to get.

Thankfully, this should no longer be the case, as these shaders are being taken out of the Bright Dust cosmetic rotation, and will now be exclusively available via the special Year 1 shader bundle. This information has been made available via one of the official Bungie Twitter accounts, highlighting the fact that none of the game’s Year 1 shaders would be completely taken off sale, thus letting unaware players spend their Bright Dust on Destiny 2’s 30th Anniversary items, for example.

The confusing part about Year 1 shaders was that they have been on sale in a bundle for a mere 1,000 Glimmer ever since Beyond Light came out, but they could also pop up as part of Destiny 2’s weekly Bright Dust cosmetic lineup. This would mean that players that weren’t aware of the bundle would end up spending Bright Dust, which is particularly hard to stockpile for newcomers to the game, whereas Glimmer is easy to get in Destiny 2.

While the items in question aren’t as flashy as Destiny 2’s glowing Mystoposphor shader, they are a tried-and-true selection of mostly neutral cosmetics, making them an easy way to customize gear without having to spend hard-to-get resources to do so. At the same time, it’s worth pointing out that backend API changes have revealed the existence of a potential Year 2 shader bundle, which may be made available with the launch of Witch Queen.

As the player base prepares for the launch of Witch Queen DLC on February 22nd, it would seem that Bungie is intent on delivering a number of QoL improvements, such as the changes detailed above. Another exciting feature is that of weapon crafting in Destiny 2, which is bound to lead to easier targeted farming for weapon rolls.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
