In addition to the alterations brought to Destiny’s Control mode, Dague also said Bungie has “taken additional steps to increase the emphasis on connection quality,” explaining that lag should no longer be much of an issue, with skill ratings being a less important factor in matching up players. That said, it’ll be easier for fans to take part in the game with friends who are more or less skilled than their Guardian, but it should be noted that the same thing applies to opponents, meaning that depending on who players match-up with, winning may be an effortless feat or an even more difficult task. Elaborating further on the matter, Dague wrote:
Per the update post, Bungie has also extended Damage Referee so as to give fans playing matches in the Crucible’s Clash, Rumble, and Freelance 3v3 arenas better connections. These changes were initially brought about in Control, and discussed more in-depth during the studio’s introduction of freelance solo and PvP playlists in a previous update.
With all of these changes taking place, Bungie says it needs players’ help in giving developers a steady stream of feedback so that the studio can determine what should stay and what should go. The best way for fans to make their thoughts known would be to boot up the game to test out all of the new stuff the company’s added, and then head on over to Destiny’s official forums to give an honest opinion.
The development team at Bungie is undoubtedly making a lot of these changes now in order to prepare for Destiny’s Spring Update, which is set to bring about an increase in Light level, new gear, and fresh PvE content. Bearing all of this in mind, the fact that the studio has at least gone on record about the poor quality of matches’ connections is a good sign of developers listening to the fan-base, but it’s still too early to say that the dreaded lag has been rectified once and for all.
