Bungie and Twitch recently partnered for a unique Destiny 2 bounty reward. Destiny 2 players could gift two subscriptions while watching a Twitch streamer utilizing the official Twitch Destiny Extension to receive a special reward. The reward was a bundle of in-game content, including 5000 glimmer, 3 enhancement cores, 3 Twitch Watchers’ Shade shaders, an exclusive emblem, and most importantly 12,000 XP. It’s the XP that turned out to be a problem.

For whatever reason, once some Destiny 2 players completed the Twitch bounty, they were able to turn in their reward bundle in-game over and over again. The exploit is technically infinite, so Destiny 2 players were using the reward to complete unending ranks of seasonal XP. Some described the glitch as allowing 100 season ranks per hour, and any number of Destiny 2 players absolutely capitalized on the exploit.

That exploit has since been fixed by Bungie, however. Bungie reportedly turned off the bounty so that it could no longer be claimed, so there’s no more infinite XP to capitalize on. Those hoping to join in should save their Twitch subscriptions. It’s a bit of a sweeping response to the exploit, but disabling the entire system so that Bungie can figure out what specifically went wrong is the best – and quickest – response. Odds are the bounty will return in the future without the exploit.

It’s unclear at this time whether Destiny 2 players who capitalized on the exploit will be punished. Bungie will likely be able to easily track who claimed more rewards than they’d earned, so it’s within the realm of possibility. Bungie may opt to erase all unearned rewards, but leave players otherwise unpunished, too. There’s always the possibility it does nothing, too.

Destiny 2 players have a history of finding creative ways of earning rewards in ways that should be considered exploitative. It goes all the way back to the infamous Destiny loot cave. It’s just a part of making a looter shooter, as players are understandably driven to earn loot and progress as fast and quickly as possible. Odds are those that used this new exploit have hundreds of hours put into Destiny 2, and they’ll go right back to earning XP the normal way after. Gamers are funny like that.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
