Bungie has been keeping fans updated through its social media accounts. It stated that it believes it has figured out why this bug happened, and it is actively working on a fix. The BungieHelp Twitter account has promised that it will provide an update to Destiny 2 players by 1pm Pacific time. However, that doesn’t mean that the fix will be released at that point, so fans shouldn’t count on the Destiny 2 servers going back up by then.

Since Glimmer is the primary currency for Destiny 2, players losing their Glimmer is a serious issue. We will update this post when Bungie has announced that the problem has been fixed and the Destiny 2 servers are back online.

This isn’t the only bug that has impacted Destiny 2 lately. Though not nearly as big of a deal, there was a Destiny 2 immunity glitch that allowed players to solo raid bosses. However, bugs are usually not that big of a problem with Destiny 2 and its community.

What Destiny 2 is really struggling with keeping its playerbase consistently engaged, with some blaming that on its seasonal format. Like many other live service games, Destiny 2 has seasons that players can participate in for a limited time. Some feel that this focus on seasons has ruined the pacing of the game, and that the content released during the seasons just isn’t compelling enough. One former Bungie employee explained it like this: “In D1 I wanted to play more but there wasn’t anything to do. In D2 there’s a lot to do but I don’t want to play anymore.”

Destiny 2 has been the subject of some criticism since its launch, and major technical issues like the one currently plaguing the game certainly don’t help things. Hopefully Bungie is able to fix the problem and get the servers back up so that Destiny 2 enthusiasts can get back to their game.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
