Bungie confirmed that the Destiny 2 servers are down in a tweet that explained that it is “investigating server and connection issues.” Bungie told fans to wait for updates, though stopped short of clarifying exactly when those updates will be available. As of the time of this writing, thousands of Destiny 2 players have reported that they can’t connect to the game’s servers, so it’s clearly a widespread issue.

While Destiny 2’s servers being down for the Beyond Light launch is unfortunate, it’s not exactly unexpected. This kind of thing is common whenever a big new online multiplayer game or expansion launches, and many likely saw it coming. Still, there are many angry Destiny 2 fans that replied to Bungie’s tweet about the problem.
Hopefully Bungie is able to restore Destiny 2’s servers sooner rather than later, so fans of the popular looter-shooter game can see everything that the new expansion has to offer. Destiny 2: Beyond Light includes new story missions, new locations to explore, and the new Stasis subclass, so there is certainly plenty for fans to look forward to playing.
We will update this post once Destiny 2 servers have been restored.
Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
