The HELM was first introduced last season, Season of the Chosen, as a hub area within the tower. Throughout the season the HELM acted as a hub for players to launch a variety of seasonal activities, and while the HELM’s future beyond Season 13 was not clear, it seems that it may play a similar role in the new season in addition to all of Destiny 2 Season 14’s other additions.

While there is much that is still not known about what will all be added to the HELM in Season 14, Bungie has revealed that it will be getting a new chamber and some new functionality. Bungie’s official website reveals that the new chamber will overlook the loading bay and that the Vanguard will use it both for harnessing Splicer tech as well as planning their response to the Vex attack on the Tower. As always, Season 14 will continue the story of Destiny 2, so it will be interesting to see how the upgraded HELM plays into it.
What guardians tampering with Splicer tech will all entail has not been detailed, but it would make sense to see the system function similarly to Destiny 2’s Umbral Engrams that were introduced in the Season of Arrivals. They gave players access to a particular pool of loot, and even let players refine them to narrow down what items they would prefer to get from decrypting them. It also could potentially act similarly to how players unlocked their stasis subclass in Beyond Light that saw players returning to the same location throughout the story to unlock new abilities. Of course, it also could be something entirely new to Destiny 2 as well.
Season of the Splicer has a lot to offer Destiny 2 players, including the much-awaited transmog system, new activities, and the return of the Vault of Glass raid. While some members of the community have already expressed concerns over how the new transmog system will work, there is still a lot for players to be excited about in Season 14. Only time will tell how well received the season is once players finally get their hands on it, and hopefully, Bungie has some plans to announce more Destiny 2 news during the coming summer of video game conferences and announcements.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Season of the Splicer releases on May 11.
