Players quickly starting testing the Witherhoard exotic to see its damage potential, but as the season has stretched into its first week they made a bigger discovery. The two new swords introduced with Destiny 2 Season of Arrivals might be some of the best weapons in the game.

For veterans of Destiny 1, the two “new” swords in Destiny 2 are basically Legendary reprises of two exotic swords from the first game. The sword Tempation’s Hook is basically Bolt-Caster, and Falling Guillotine is a Dark-Drinker equivalent. Temptation’s Hook has a heavy attack that fires a disc-like projectile while Falling Guillotine’s heavy attack sends players into a high-powered spin attack.
While it could be argued that the exotic sword Black Talon already brought the projectile attack to swords in Destiny 2, Temptation’s Hook is the first official sword to add the Caster Frame class of swords to the game. This is similar to how Destiny 2 added an entirely new grenade launcher subclass in Season of Dawn with Marytr’s Retribution. The ability to have a sword that can launch projectiles that is Legendary instead of an exotic to take up that slot opens up different builds and loadouts for players to experiment with.
Like Dark-Drinker in Destiny 1, the Falling Guillotine appears to be able to deal out massive damage. Near the end of Destiny 1’s lifecycle, Dark-Dinker was the go-to DPS weapon when it came to damaging the final boss in Destiny 1’s last raid Wrath of the Machine. Likewise, players have been testing out Guillotine and found that it has massive DPS build potential in Destiny 2, as shown in this video from Ehroar:
How to Get Temptation’s Hook and Falling Guillotine
The good news is both swords are fairly easy to get. Players can find Temptation’s Hook in Umbral Engrams. For a better chance at getting Tempation’s Hook, players can focus their Umbral Engrams to be Pyramid-Focused. Once players unlock Improved Arsenal Focusing on the Season Pass, players have an even better chance of getting Tempation’s Hook to drop from Edge-Focused Umbral Engrams.
As for Falling Guillotine, players will receive this sword by reaching rank 30 on the Season Pass. The static roll on this version of the sword is not that great, so players will want to farm a better perk roll once they can. Like the Temptation’s Hook, players will be able to farm Falling Guillotine from Umbral Engrams once Improved Arsenal Focusing is unlocked at rank 32 of the Season Pass, and then players can start farming them in the Arrival-Focused Umbral Engram.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
