Despite Destiny 2 being free-to-play for newcomers, it doesn’t do an excellent job of explaining the lore behind enemies, characters, and locations. Other learning curves come from Power Level caps and purchasing the suite of Light powers from Ikora Ray in the Tower. Furthermore, the current lifespan of Destiny 2 has seen thousands of players spend their time playing and grinding for weapons, armor, mods, favorite Light and Darkness subclasses, and Exotic items to create specific builds and play styles.

Access to All Armor Mods in Destiny 2

Destiny 2 has made all armor mods available, allowing all players to experiment and try new builds before buildcrafting is overhauled in Lightfall. This is one of the best decisions and changes Bungie has made for new players to ease their experience with Destiny 2. With free-to-play content allowing players to even farm pinnacle gear through Vanguard, Gambit, and Crucible, new players can continue to raise their Power Levels and experiment with all the armor mods except Raid and Artifact mods.

Not only does this soften the learning curve and make the grind less time-consuming, but it also allows new players to use their glimmer toward their Light and Dark subclasses to continue experimenting with the builds that have opened for them. This will be important to practice, especially with the release of the new Darkness subclass, Strand, in Lightfall. While this subclass will be unique for everyone, the more recent players can continue to learn their player’s subclasses; determining what works best for them will also make learning Strand easier.

Lowering Power Levels of Grandmaster Nightfalls Enhances the New Player Experience

In addition to opening all armor mods, Bungie has lowered the required Power Level for Grandmaster Nightfalls by 25, allowing players with a 1580 Power Level to enter. Furthermore, the overall Power Level of Grandmaster activities in Destiny 2 has been reduced to 1620 by 10, all of which took effect when Grandmaster Nightfalls launched on January 17. Nevertheless, all enemies are at least 25 Power above players, meaning that players can enter at 1580, yet, the enemies will be 40 Power above.

Bungie has explained that despite the Power Level changes, players can use Artifact Power and pinnacle drops to increase their Power Level to 1595. This could allow newer players to experience these modes and acquire higher-level gear. These changes could also be a way to bridge the gap between lower and higher Power Levels that are seen now. Bungie has stated it’s aware of the state of matchmaking, meaning further changes could place newer players together rather than with or against seasoned veterans.

This seems to be the case as Bungie continues to explain in its TWAB that future changes will be made to other high-level content regarding Destiny 2 Power Levels. It stands to reason that with all of this accessible content open to all players, including newer ones, Bungie has made access to what Destiny 2 has to offer more appealing and streamlined for players to experiment with various builds in anticipation of what promises to be even more changes in Lightfall and beyond.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
