Destiny 2 has had several issues and glitches over the course of its two-and-a-half year lifespan, including weird hit boxes in PvP and an invincibility glitch that is allowing players to solo raids. It is a big game with a lot of players, so mistakes are bound to happen, and some glitches are going to get through even the most rigorous testing. But this latest glitch, which was deleting important items from players’ inventory, has a fix that has made some members of the community unhappy.

In an effort to fix the inventory problems after update 2.7.1, Bungie brought down the servers and made a new update for today. The update fixed the missing Glimmer, but it also has deleted any player progress that happened between 8:30AM and 10:20AM PST after the update went live. That means a lot of players are seeing their progress for limited time events and silver purchases disappearing. The servers are being brought back online as of 10:00PM EST.
“We have rolled all character data back to our most recent backup at 8:30 a.m. Pacific before the issue was introduced,” Bungie wrote on its official blog. “This will restore any lost materials caused by the issue, but players will lose any progress they made if they played between 8:30 a.m and 10:20 a.m. when we brought the game down for maintenance. Any purchases made using Silver or Bright Dust during this window will need to be repurchased. Any Silver spent or purchased will be restored… Platform store-purchased Silver bundles will not be affected by the rollback.”
For those who lost two hours worth of progress and data, this rollback will probably be pretty upsetting. Although the fix did restore the missing Glimmer, items, and any spent silver, it still has to be rough to lose any progress gained during that time because of a weird glitch that somehow made it passed testing over at Bungie. The servers being down even pushed back the Destiny 2 Twitch Prime loot that was supposed to drop today for a whole 24 hours.
It is good for everyone else, however, that the glitch was quickly caught and fixed. Although the servers were down for about a day, Destiny 2 players should be able to return to their seasonal grind now that everything is once again back online. At least players know that Bungie is trying to deal quickly and efficiently with problems, and that’s always a good thing for any game.
Destiny 2 is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
