The Mountaintop Grenade Launcher Perks
As revealed in this week’s Bungie update, The Mountaintop is a kinetic grenade launcher that can be deadly in the right hands. Bungie wanted to introduce The Mountaintop because it felt that there aren’t enough options for grenade launchers in the primary slot, outside of the Militia’s Birthright that drops from the Lake of Shadows Nightfall. A kinetic grenade launcher affords Crucible players more variety in their loadouts, and in the right hands The Mountaintop sounds quite deadly.
The Mountaintop’s key perk is called Micro-Missile and it sends the projectile in a straight line instead of an arc. Moreover, the projectile moves very fast and it detonates on impact, instead of bouncing off the environment. Based on those perks, the grenade launcher certainly sounds like it will be an efficient killing machine, assuming that it is a one-hit kill on contact.
How to Get The Mountaintop
In addition to perk details on The Mountaintop, Bungie also revealed how to obtain it. For the first time, the pinnacle Competitive weapon doesn’t require players to complete all of its steps in Destiny 2’s Competitive playlist, although they will still need to reach certain rank thresholds. Here are the full steps to getting The Mountaintop grenade launcher:
Step 1: Reach ‘Brave’ in Glory Rank Step 2: Get 750 Points in Grenade Launcher Kills (Non-competitive kills = 3 points. Competitive kills = 10 points) Step 3: Rapidly defeat enemies with grenade launchers for 200 points. Non-competitive double play = 2 points. Kills after initial double play = 1 point Competitive double play = 5 points. Kills after initial double play = 2 points Step 4: Earn 100 points in Calculated Trajectory Medals (3 Grenade launcher kills in 1 life). Non-competitive medals = 1 point. Competitive medals = 4 points. Step 5: Reach ‘Fabled’ in Glory Rank
No doubt, offering a grenade launcher as the pinnacle weapon for Competitive PvP is sure to be a contentious decision. While The Mountaintop sounds plenty strong, only time will tell whether the weapon is worth the effort (that’s a lot of grenade launcher kills). Not to mention, whether it will be worth trading away a shotgun or strong primary weapon that has more ammo.
Destiny 2 Season 5 starts on November 27th at reset.
